Built between 1319 and 1391 there seems to be history of the parish from the 5th century.
Its Catalan Gothic style presents a nave surrounded by open side chapels between the buttresses. The transept vault closes the Basilica and gives it immensity. Four of the stained glass windows are originals by one of the best glassmakers of the Catalan Baroque, Josep Ravella, who also collaborated on them. the painter par excellence of the Catalan baroque Antoni Viladomat. The rose window, the largest in Catalonia, is an exact copy of the 16th century original. XIV and it is the work of Josep Maria Jujol who rebuilt it; after the Civil War . The image of Santa Maria el Pi is still preserved inside and in its museum a large collection of metalwork and exceptional medieval funerary shields. here The remains of many members of the nobility of Barcelona and the most Barcelona saint, Sant Josep Oriol, who was a priest in this church, rest. Right at the Hail Mary Portal there are some remains of the previous church, as well as a pine tree from the pine forest that they say was in front of the church.

From the different points of the Gothic Quarter and between the picturesque squares of Pi and Sant Josep Oriol, You can hear the Antònia, the largest of the six bells that inhabit the octagonal bell tower of the church of Santa MarĂa.
