The Cathedral of Santa Creu began It was built in 1298, on the hallowed ground where an early Christian basilica from the 4th century previously stood, destroyed by Al-Mansur's troops. The chapel of Santa Lucía remains from the Romanesque church before the Gothic one, while the oldest door of the Cathedral is that of San Ivo. And those that followed the initial plans and therefore a neo-Gothic style are the main façade and the tower, completed around 1890.
Inside we find 25 side chapels, a beautiful 14th century cloister and the choir stalls, intended to gather the members of the Golden Fleece during the visit of Emperor Charles V of Germany in 1517. Of great beauty is the pulpit and the crypt dedicated to one of the patron saints of Barcelona and to whom the Santa Eulàlia temple is also dedicated. Let's not forget the beautiful stained glass windows that fill the interior of the Cathedral with light.
The Cathedral is the faithful reflection of the passage of time and thus Its architectural style demonstrates this. Its construction took After six centuries, paid for by donations from medieval brotherhoods and guilds. Although it is a mostly Gothic building, you have to visit it inside to see its splendor.
