Highights

It was the Spiritual Association of Devotees of San José, which since 1874 promoted a construction dedicated to the Holy Family. Thanks to the donations received, he purchased the 12,800 m2 plot to build the temple.  It begins with the crypt located under the apse and was Gaudí's. who finished it next to the side façade of the Nativity, declared a World Heritage Site. An important anonymous donation makes the young architect consider a new and larger work, rejecting the old neo-Gothic project and proposing a new, more monumental and innovative one.

The temple is formed by five naves with a transept of three that form a Latin cross. At the end of the cross is the apse is semicircular. In addition, the Basilica has three monumental facades, each one representing moments in the life of Jesus Christ: his birth, his passion, death and resurrection and his glory, present and future. The four towers together symbolize the four apostles.
