Highights

The Andalusian baroque style basilica stands out for its exterior with a Sevillian accent in its whiteness, the tiles and the sword. Its interior is formed by a single nave and four side chapels. The paintings dating from 1993 are the work of the painter Rafael Rodríguez Hernández. In these images you can see different scenes from the life of the Virgin. The main altarpiece is from 1949, in a neo-baroque style, and the sculptures there are shown are the work of the artist Luis Ortega Bru. here It is where the Virgin takes the greatest role.

Located north of the historic center of the city, is the Basilica of Santa María de la Esperanza, popularly called Basilica de la Macarena. It was built between 1941-1949 and it contains The greatest treasure of the city of Seville is protected: the Virgin of Hope Macarena, the most venerated image and one of the most important in Holy Week in Seville. It goes out in procession at dawn on Good Friday, with a century of Roman soldiers in red velvet suits, helmets and helmets called the “armaos”.
