According to a famous Spanish Cantar de Gesta The Seven Infants of Lara faced another family of nobles who had prepared an ambush for them without their knowledge. At the time of the combat, instead of the noblemen showing up, numerous Muslim soldiers appeared and mercilessly beheaded the seven brothers. His father, Don Gonzalo Gustioz, was captured and taken prisoner to General Almanzor's palace where he had to contemplate the heads of his children on silver trays. Currently, bordering the house is a small alley with seven arches where legend has it that the seven heads of the Infantes of Lara were hung.
