It is one of the oldest and richest museums in Madrid. It is located very close to Retiro Park and the Prado Museum. Inaugurated in 1913

The museum is located in an old 19th century palace that the Duchess of SantoƱa used to use as a summer residence. In 1941 the heirs of the Duchess sold it to the State and the works were expanded

Of the 70,000 pieces it has, about 2,600 from the East and West are on display. You can see the evolution of furniture, toys, clocks, carpets, tapestries and many more objects from the 15th century to the 20th century. Most of the objects originate from China from the Ming (14th-17th century) and Quing (17th-20th century) dynasties

The museum has five floors and temporary exhibitions take place on the first.

It has a large exhibition of carpets from the 15th to 17th centuries

You can see, among many other things, a 17th century manor house, an 18th century Neapolitan nativity scene, a 19th century bedroom and the impressive Valencian kitchen decorated with tiles from the area that has an exhibition of kitchen utensils that transport us to old country houses.
