The convent church was able to be carried out thanks to the patronage of the noblemanLópez de Haro who contributed He paid a large sum for its construction and for the erection of a pantheon for his family in the Main Chapel in the 16th century. The temple is composed of a basilica plan with a single nave< /strong> covered by Mudejar coffered ceilings and topped by a flat headboard.


The main chapel stands out, with its octagonal shape and covered by beautiful woods that It houses an inscription that alludes to its reform in the year 1704, the date on which it was probably transformed into a building. the main altar as we see it today and which was the work of the sculptor Juan Pompeyo. In this group we can see in the central part scenes of the Adoration of the Shepherds and an Epiphany and in the upper part, an Assumption of the Virgin flanked by Saints Peter and Saints Paul. On the exterior there is a doorway built in the 17th century and the most interesting element of the complex since it is the most important side. ;s ancient cloister formed by arches resting on columns with capitals from the Visigothic period.

The Convent of Jesus Crucified was founded on an old medieval Hospital in the year 1508 thanks to the sponsorship of the Marquises of Carpio and given to the nuns of the Order of Santo Domingo who were in charge of the temple until the confiscations that occurred in 1868. The property has suffered many vicissitudes throughout history, once desecrated it was used as a police barracks and currently, after undergoing a process of remodeling, is the headquarters of the nursing home ""Little Sisters of the Helpless Elderly"".
