Highights
The legend says that this religious building was built with materials looted from Medina Azahara. Whether true or not, the truth is that in various areas of the building we can see remains of caliphal-style structures, in the courtyard of the monastery For example, it was carried out the largest discovery to date and it was a bronze sculpture that represents a fawn and which unfortunately was sold in 1997 - the one that currently stands in the center of the patio is a modern reproduction. Today it is located in the city of Doha as part of the collections of the National Museum of Qatar.
On the exterior of the property a stone façade stands out elongated roof with irregularly arranged windows and a series of balconies where we can contemplate a beautiful relief of Saint Jerome, Patron of the Religious Order to which is dedicated to the temple, above the access door. Inside we find two cloisters with a square floor plan - the one called for the novices was completely rebuilt - in addition to the Priorial Room, the Chapter Room and a beautiful courtyard with columns around the richcovered with Gothic ribbed vaults. The church of the monastery follows the models of the preaching temples since it is composed of a single rectangular nave, choir and four side chapels.

The Jeronimo Monastery of Valparaíso is located Located in Sierra Morena, about ten kilometers from Córdoba and a few meters from the majestic Medina Azahara. Considered as the first fully Gothic construction a of the city, was erected thanks to the first founder of the Order of Saint Jerome in Spain, Fray Vasco, in the first decade of the 15th century. This building continued receiving additions from later periods so today we find Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque structures forming part of this monastery that was functioning until the year 1835. At the end of the 19th century, It fell into private handsand in 1911 the Marquises of Mérito were in charge of its restoration. At the end of the 20th century, in 1980, it was designated Asset of Cultural Interest.
