Highights

 

The temple built with brick and ashlar has a Latin cross plan with three naves separated by semicircular arches covered by middle vaults barrelin the central and edges on the sides. Above the transept stands a dome supported by four large arches and above it, a lantern on a cylindrical drum. Inside, the main altar stands out with a carving of the Christ of Love by the artist Jesús de Perceval and the tempera mural painting by Juan Ruiz Miralles. On the outside there are two doorways and the main façade from the 18th century, designed by the architects Ventura Rodríguez and Juan Antonio Munar, in which a relief attributed to Juan de Salazar can be seen. In addition, the temple has a characteristic polygonal tower divided into three bodies.

The church of San Sebastián de Almería called ""de las Huertas"" because it was located in the area of ​​the Puerta de Purchena orchards, was built in the 17th century in an area of ​​the city that had been very busy since the Muslim era, since in the 15th century an ancient site had been built on this lot mosque of great prominence in the history of the city for having been the place where the keys were handed over to the Christian troops after the conquest. The current temple was completed in the year 1679 although it was modified. in the year 1779 with the creation of a new atrium and façade by the famous architect Ventura Rodríguez, in the year 1883 with a baptistery and the rooms parishes and after the Civil War, in 1940, the building suffered damage. a process ofcomprehensive rehabilitation.
