Highights

The oldest remains found in the Ribera de la Algaida belong to the < strong>Copper Age and Bronze Age with remains of bell-shaped ceramics and large polychrome vessels from the Iberian era. The maximum splendor of the place occurred during the Roman period and the uprising of the city of Turaniana that Antoninus mentions in his documents written in the 3rd century. The remains found range from the popular terra sigillata - Roman ceramics characterized by its bright red color - to bronze sculptures and glass vessels. On the other hand, They have found parts of the building constructions such as shafts, capitals, ashlars, painted stuccos and remains of grain and olive mills. The last active period of the city occurred under Muslim power in this fishing area called Al-Binyans or Al-Pechiniz and from this, some have come to light > burials, ceramics and remains of a tower built in the 14th century.

The Turaniana Site was discovered in 1859 and is located in an area of ​​the town of Roquetas de Mar called ""La Ribera de la Algaida"" that was declared Bite of Cultural Interest with the category of Archaeological Zone in 1991. The importance of this archaeological site of about 13 hectares in area lies in the fact that it has been occupied uninterruptedly from the Copper Age until the 20th century.
