The construction process of the Roquetas de Mar church held together all the inhabitants of the municipality because it was mostly paid for by all the neighbors who wanted to have their own parish and with the help of the General Factories of the Bishopric of Almería. For its construction, low-cost materials such as masonry and brick were used, but the construction continued. a large-scale design designed by the famous royal architect, Ventura Rodríguez, which surpassed the more than those of the neighboring towns of Felix and Vícar. The religious temple, like many buildings in the province of Almería, suffered damage. It suffered numerous damages during the Civil War since it was looted, its religious images were destroyed and the priest was forced to leave the town. Currently, the main façade, the Mudejar coffered ceiling and the altarpiece by the famous sculptor Jesus de Perceval stand out, all of them restored after the war.
Sundays.
The Church of the Virgin of the Rosary was built in the mid-18th century at the initiative of a group of fishermen who lived in the nearby towns of Felix and Vícar and who went daily to Roquetas de Mar to fish and needed a temple where you can perform your daily prayers since until that date there was only one chapel in the municipality located inside the Castle of Santa Ana. After the erection of this beautiful baroque building that was completed in the year 1757, it depended on the of the parishes of the neighboring towns until the end of the 18th century when it achieved its independence, and with it, a large part of the identity of Roquetas de Mar as a town. Today, the patron saint of Roquetas comes out in aprocessionworthy of being contemplated every dayOctober 7.
