King Charles V not only ordered Not only did he create rooms for his family and a Renaissance palace in the Alhambra, but he also ordered build this majestic Puerta de las Granadas. Formerly and following Islamic art, the entrance was created by the Arab people but, from 1536, it was configured in honor of Emperor Charles V.The classical style permeates this access to the forests of the Alhambra, highlighting the imperial shield of Charles and following a Roman triumphal arch model. In the part At the top we find the representation of peace, abundance and three pomegranates that give the door its name. The poet Francisco Villaespesa dedicated in the 20th century a text to al-Ahmar (Muhammad I), founder of the Alhambra, on a cartouche located at the back of the entrance.

The emblematic access that gives way to the forest is known by the name of Puerta de las Granadas Renaissance style of the Alhambra complex. In the year 1536, Emperor Charles V ordered his favorite architect, Pedro Machuca, the construction of this monumental door, framed with the imperial shield and which replaces an old entrance of Islamic origin.
