An old fishing neighborhood located in thewest area, southwest of the municipality. The inhabitants of La Carihuela originally subsisted on the fruits of the sea: the rich fish and shellfish that the Mediterranean offers at this end of the Malaga bay. However, tourism development starting in the 1950s also opened up new possibilities, mainly with restaurants and beach bars where residents and tourists could taste the fishermen's catch.
