The remodeling project of this urban space was carried out by the architect Juan Gallo de Andrada who designed the aquadrangular square formed by five historic buildings: the Senior Schools, the Minor Schools, the Study Hospital, the House of the Queen's Doctors and the House of the Cats. The strong>Senior Schools have a beautiful plateresque façade that is famous for housing a frog sculpted on a skull. The Minor Schools are located in a corner of the complex and their layout reminds us of a religious cloister. In them we find a famous fresco that represents astronomical themes and was made in the 19th century. XV known as""The Heaven of Salamanca"". The Hospital was in operation from the 15th century to the 19th century and today houses the headquarters of the Rectorate of the University of Salamanca. The House of the Queen's Doctors belonged to to the Álvarez Abarca family of doctors in the 15th century and has a mixture ofGothic and Renaissance styles, currently it functions as the Museum of Salamanca with exhibitions on the Archeology and Fine Arts of the city. In the center of the square there is a statue of Fray Luis de León erected in 1869 and inspired by the figure of Aristotle from the painting ""The School of Athens"" by Raphael located in the Vatican Museums.

The name "School Courtyard" is known as the small square located just in front of the façade of the Senior Schools< building. /strong> from the University of Salamanca, world famous for housing the mysterious frog. The construction of this space was carried out at the beginning of the 17th century by order of King Philip III with the aim of obtaining a better view of the great historical monuments that surrounded it. Nowadays it is one of the most visited places in the city by both residents and strangers.
