Highights

Designed in 1777 by the Madrid architect Ventura Rodríguez to beautify the space called the Salón del Prado.

The fountain was used as such until 1862. It had two pipes, one for the water carriers who brought water to the houses and the other for the general public . It represents the goddess Cybele, goddess of Mother Earth, in her chariot pulled by two lions, mythological characters that represent Hippomenes and Atalanta.
