This Renaissance Palace from the 16th century, also known as Colegio Fonseca or Colegio Santiago Alfeo, is the Headquarters of the University of Santiago de Compostela. It also houses the University Library. Events and exhibitions related to the University are held.
The school was built by Archbishop Alonso de Fonseca in the house where he had been born. It began It began operating in 1544. The façade is in the Plateresque style and its interior highlights its Gothic chapel, the cloister and the coffered Hall that was the headquarters of the Parliament of Galicia between 1982 and 1989. Its Library houses treasures such as the “Book of Hours of Fernando I”, the oldest book in Santiago from the 11th century. In the space designated for the orchards, the Botanical Garden of the University of Santiago has been built since 1844
