It is the first headquarters of the Russian state museum in Western Europe, an approach to the culture of Russia through relevant pieces from the State Russian Museum that It was inaugurated in 1895 by decree of the last Tsar Nicholas II and located in the city of Saint Petersburg.
The Museum collection is located in the Tabacalera building. It has been established in Malaga since March 25, 2015 as an approach to Russian culture through pieces from the State Russian Museum in Saint Petersburg. This institution has more than 400,000 works that encompass each of the periods, trends and genres of Russian art. The Malaga headquarters hosts a series of long-term exhibitions, renewed each year, and a program of temporary exhibitions that trace the complex and fascinating history of Russian art and its changing relationship with European culture as the exhibitions dedicated to the great Russian avant-garde artists Kandisky, Chagall and Malevich.
