Between 1990 and 1992, the Imagina project took place in Almería on the occasion of the commemoration of the V Centenary of the Discovery of America, strong> at this meeting, almost forty renowned international artists had the objective of photographing this beautiful province from the most varied perspectives. When the days ended, all the photographs came together to give life to the first catalog of the Andalusian Photography Center (CAF) that was established officially on November 24, 1992.
Since 2007 this institution has been located in the historic center of the city, inside the old Liceo Artístico y Literario de Almería with the aim to serve as an exhibition center, in addition to being configured as an innovative place for research, collection and dissemination of photography as a manifestation of photography. n cultural and have classrooms for workshops, a digital laboratory, a studio photography, library, audiovisual room, archive, store and administrative offices, forming a photography interpretation center that meets the needs of the 21st century.
The fundamental objectives of the CAF are based on an interdisciplinary treatment of photography,< /strong> in the study of the image from various approaches, in the dissemination of the medium through exhibitions, workshops, events and edition of catalogues, in the promotion of the work of photographers, in collaboration with other institutions and related groups, and above all, to ensure the conservation of the Andalusian photographic heritage and the recovery of your memory. Today they have more than 5,000 images between deposits, donations and acquisitions.
