On Avenida del Mar in Almería, the remains of the imposing T Caliphal turrets that were built in the year 955 by order of the caliph Abd al-Rahman III on the occasion of the creation of the medina and the walled enclosurethat surrounds it. These military towers were built facing the sea with the aim of protecting the city and all its inhabitants in the event of a maritime attack, a function they fulfilled for centuries.
Unfortunately, today these towers are in an advanced state state of deterioration due to the passage of time itself, the erosion caused by inclement weather but above all, by the numerous disrespectful acts that were committed. have committed against them. A few years ago, for example, the monument was drilled to house an electrical installation and very often it is the wall chosen by vandals who make graffiti on it. For some years now it has been trying to convey to the Junta de Andalucía the need to protect this monumental complex that is in serious danger of extinction and to be introduced in the catalog of Assets of Cultural Interest so that it can be restored and valued, just as any infrastructure that has been more than a thousand years old deserves. .
