The name of Huerta de San Vicente is known as the summer estate of the García Lorca family and where a famous writer spent ; long seasons and wrote his great literary works in the last ten years of his life, between 1926 and 1936. Since 1995 and his declaration as Asset of Cultural Interest has become a museum where we can find its collections and the personal objects of Federico and his family.
The family home was built at the beginning of the 20th century following the simple structure of the typical houses of the Granada plain around a garden in which they grew different vegetables and fruits such as corn , potatoes, cherry trees and quinces for personal consumption. Today, the Federico García Lorca Museum maintains its design and furniture as it was when he inhabited it. the poet in the first third of the last century. In 1985, the housing and orchard complex was renovated. At the hands of the City Council, in 1997 the the Huerta de San Vicente Municipal Board and in 2004 the agreement was signed. the General Collaboration Protocol for the Creation of the Federico García Lorca Center in Granada. Currently these organizations are in charge of the conservation of the garden and the dissemination of the work of Federico García Lorca through cultural events such as exhibitions, concerts, children's readings and activities.
