In the year 1839 a Museum of Fine Arts was opened to the public with collections from ancient convents, churches and monastic stays. The artistic repertoire allows us to travel in time from the 15th century to the 19th century with works by artists of the stature of Vicente Carducho, Alonso Cano or great masterpieces like the Grand Captain Triptych.
The disentailment of Mendizábal between 1836 and 1837 led to the state seizure of important goods, such as works of art that were used for the creation of a Museum of Fine Arts in Granada in 1839. The museum has collections mainly of a religious nature such as those of the artist Alonso Cano, Vicente Carducho, the Triptych of the Great Captain or the sculptural group of the Holy Burial of the Royal Monastery of San Jerónimo (burial place of the Great Captain). New works from the 19th and 20th centuries complete the collection which, since 1958, has been located in the Palace of Charles V, within the palace complex of the Alhambra. p>
