It is one of the old royal entrance gates to the city. Inaugurated in 1778 during the reign of Charles III. It receives its name from being located on the road that led to Alcalá from Henares.
Commissioned by Carlos III to the architect Francisco Sabatini. It was inaugurated It was built in 1778, replacing another previous door that marked the way to Alcalá. from Henares. Carved in granite and limestone, it has the shape of an Arc de Triomphe with 5 openings instead of the usual 3 and the facades show different decorations. In 1976 it was declared a National Monument. El Retiro Park is located in its northwest corner.
